Six Festive Looks For The Season

DEC 09, 2019

Christmas calls for decadent dressing, from light-reflecting sequins and voluminous plumes of feathers to the extravagant warmth of velvet and statement-making tights or tartan.

These looks promise to display the most stylish of seasonal layering.

Whether subtle detailing or a head-to-toe look, the effect of sequins should not be underestimated, particularly at this time of year. Look to CELINE for metallic-like sequin blouses or Chanel for the slick, form-fitting black sequin tops and wide-leg sequin trousers that were masterfully paired together on the Autumn/Winter 2019 runway.

Feathers add a necessary element of extravagance to a festive wardrobe. For inspiration, sartorial plumage was seen aplenty on the Autumn/Winter 2019 runway, from the detailing on a candy-pink mini dress and neutral-coloured floor-length gown at Valentino to fuller plumes in eye-catching neons at Loewe.

Statement tights

There's no time like Christmas for statement tights. For Autumn/Winter 2019, Fendi showcased a logo-emblazoned sheer pair, worn under a mini skirt for full effect, and peeking from beneath a midi skirt for a more subtle look. Gucci opted for colour with chunky-knit tights presented in both neon orange and festive green.

Nothing says the holiday season quite like the sumptuous texture of velvet. From a printed robe suit at Balenciaga to delicate draped sashes at Dior Homme, this cosy, lustrous fabric catches the light ever so slightly for a glistening take on festive dressing.

Tartan always makes for an instant festive look. This season, the bold checker print is presented less traditional country attire and more urban get-up, appearing on long-line silhouettes on the runways of Balenciaga, Gucci and Paul Smith.

Shearling coat

'Tis the season to wrap up in the plush warmth of a shearling coat. We saw iterations of the perennially classic suede coat on the runways of CELINE and Loewe, while a glossier take, with black leather and a beige lining, turned heads at Hermes.
