Seeing red

There is no more powerful colour to give your nearest and dearest this Chinese New Year.

The New Must-Haves

It’s hard to go wrong with a gorgeous bag. Big isn’t always better though, you can make an impact with colours that pop, or clever embellishments, like the Roger Vivier Photocall Bag in ravishing red leather, and the adorable Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Nappa Embroidery dog zip around wallet. Chinese New Year-themed gifts can sometimes be tricky and tacky, but this cutie gets the paws up from us.

When it comes to choosing women’s apparel, keep it simple and let the cut and colour do the talking. Carven’s pink chambray sleeveless flared top is feminine yet distinctive, with an asymmetrical fold and safari-style pockets adding character, while a red dress from Derek Lam’s 10 Crosby range has an easy elegance that will carry from day to night.

Sometimes however, more is better, as is the case with jewellery and watches. Diamonds are forever, and BVLGARI’s Divas’ Dream watch is a shining example. Its 18k rose gold case set with brilliant-cut diamonds makes an even greater statement with the addition of unusual, vividly-hued gemstones, inlcuding mandarin garnets, tourmalines and pink opal elements. Or for classic, there is heritage Hong Kong brand Wai Kee’s rose gold, brown and white diamond earrings.

The Cakery offers that and more, with a berries blossom vegan cheesecake, or a gift box filled with real roses and rose-shaped cakepops made with organic chocolate. Blooming marvelous, as are the heavenly bouquets from Ellermann Flower Boutique, bursting with divine flowers and foliage.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

You could be practical and say it with a Magimix Patissier Multifunction food processor, which does almost everything except cook for you, or indulge in a lovingly restored 1930s antique blanket trunk, handy for storage or lending character to your room. The whimsical ceramics from French workshop Gien, who have partnered with artist and illustrator Soledad for an unashamedly romantic collection of tableware, has particular charm, and many of you will find that the sparkling appeal of glassware can be irresistible, especially if it’s from venerable artisans Baccarat, who have been creating the most sought after crystalware for more than 250 years.
