SS17 look by DOLCE & GABBANA, LANDMARK ALEXANDRA
Our rules on navigating today’s complicated world of men’s style, and how you can still let the individual inside shine
Rule: Curate a well-fitting ensemble
Own it: Start with bespoke shirts and that will no doubt open the door for more personalization as there’s nothing like wearing clothes that are specially made for you. Once you get into bespoke suits that offer so much scope for customisation, from lining to stitching to buttons, there’s no turning back.
Rule: Own an analogue watch
Own it: Your digital watch is all very well for the gym and to go with your casual apparel, but make the investment in a classic wristwatch too. You don’t have to wear it daily, but when the time is right a top-notch watch can elevate an outfit.
Rule: Swear by the textured tie
Own It: The new power tie is all about texture and depth. Wear one, even if you don’t have to. It’s about dressing for the job you want, not the job you have.
Rule: Swap the beer for a G&T
Own It: Beer’s out and spirits are in. With hundreds of gins now on the market, make the gin and tonic your own by choosing the botanicals you like and the tonic to complement. Stuck on beer? Make it craft.
Rule: Veggie lunches trump steak frites, at least some of the time
Own it: There’s no time like the present to watch what you eat. Better still, express a little bit of pizazz in the kitchen and make your own meals. It’s good for the waistline as well as the wallet – and you might even impress some people in the process.
Rule: Be well groomed, but not overly primped
Own it: Find a signature scent, moisturise, because you can, do your hair, and look like you care– it says a lot about who you are.
