Born and raised in Hong Kong and of Eurasian heritage, Maria Lobo began her career as an artist training and honing her skills across the globe in Italy, Spain, Canada and the USA. She received her bachelor degree in Fine Arts and Painting from the University of Santa Clara in 1985 before spending two independent years of study in Barcelona. She then moved to the USA and became part of the San Francisco Hunters Point artists’ community before returning to Hong Kong in 1994.
Maria’s East and West heritage, Asian roots and international experience are all reflected in the broad perspective found in her style of artwork. Her Asian-inspired abstract works incorporate both Western and Asian materials and techniques and using paper as paint, she creates artwork using antique and unusual handmade paper collected on her international travels. The collages included in this collection have a tranquil Zen-like quality balanced against unique graphic visuals.
Maria subsequently moved back to the USA and currently resides in San Francisco, exhibiting her work internationally.
