Widely known as “Chop Alley”, Man Wa Lane is one of the most interesting of Hong Kong’s many trade-specific streets, known for the carving of ornate Chinese seals, but also as the place to go for more modern custom made rubber stamps. Either can be used to authenticate documents. The seal carvers began to take over the lane in the 1930s, and the trade continues to thrive there. Watch the master craftsmen create your unique personal seal with both extraordinary skill and surprising speed. Since June 2014 Seal Carving Technique has been listed in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory of Hong Kong in the Traditional Craftsmanship Domain.
