The Mandarin Cake Shop has been delighting customers for over 40 years and still remains the favoured stop for sweet treats, cakes and gourmet gift items. Yves Matthey, the hotel’s Executive Pastry Chef, is the main inspiration behind. Responsible for the production of all the cakes, breads, pastries and chocolates, the creative and imaginative Chef Yves is understandably one of the city’s most admired chefs. The Mandarin Cake Shop is affectionately referred to as “the Cartier of cakes” due to the glass display cases containing exquisite creations ranging from chocolate handbags to dramatic wedding cakes. Chef Yves is ably assisted by Bob Tay, who is the genius widely recognised in Hong Kong for his intricate, themed cakes. Tay’s cakes both fascinate and amaze, often appearing so real that viewers need to look twice before discovering that they are looking at an edible work of art.
