Sharing an interest in early Chinese furniture and Asian decorative arts, founders Amanda Clark and David Halperin established Altfield Gallery as one of the first antique galleries to specialise in 18th and early 19th century Chinese furniture. Recognising the importance of careful restoration, they brought in English furniture restorers to train their carpenters in the fine art of furniture restoration. Today, the gallery also deals in Southeast Asian sculpture, 19th and 20th century Burmese silver and contemporary silver made hand-worked in traditional forms, antique and modern Indian gold jewellery, Japanese works of art and antique Chinese and Tibetan carpets. The Gallery holds periodic exhibitions to showcase its specialties.
