In 1986, Pret opened the doors of its very first shop with a mission to create handmade, natural food, avoiding the chemicals, additives and preservatives common to so much of the ‘prepared’ and ‘fast’ food on the market at the time. Kitchens are always in (or very near) every Pret A Manger and there are no ‘sell-by’ dates on Pret’s fresh sandwiches and salads. Anything that doesn’t get sold is offered to charity at the end of each day rather than keeping it over to sell the next day. Over the past 30 years, Pret has grown steadily and today there are 350 Prets worldwide with shops in the UK, USA, Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong serving more than 300,000 customers daily.
