Han Xin

b.1955

In this series of four large paintings, Shanghai-born artist Han Xin used the symbolism of a doorway to represent Hong Kong’s position as the gateway to China. Painted while he was living in the United States, the doors also represent a look back on his native China. He chose a pair of majestic doors from the Forbidden City and infused each one with the light and colour of a different season.

Han Xin has studied, worked and exhibited widely in China, the United States and France and has synthesised his diverse experiences to become a master of mood and pattern. His light-filled canvasses reflect an innately confident and optimistic nature.

Hongkong Land commissioned these paintings.
