Chu Hon Sun was born in Guangzhou, China in 1950. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1975. In the following year, he was granted a scholarship from the Italian ministry of culture. He graduated with a major in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, Italy in 1980. Upon his return to Hong Kong, he became a lecturer of The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1982-1990. In 1981, he joined the Hong Kong Sculptors Association.
Chu’s works, mostly in white marble and granite, have great beauty of form and texture. He has received numerous awards locally and worldwide, including the “Young Artists Award” in the Royal Over-Seas League Art Exhibition in 1975, the “Special Award of Sculpture” in the 19th Exhibition of Sculpture and Craft in Carrara, Italy in 1979, as well as twice the Urban Council Fine Arts Award for sculpture in the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition in 1981 and 1987.
